Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has suggested that bitcoin could lose its market position in the future if the leading cryptocurrency does not realize its innovative potential. The whole problem is the exceptional conservatism of the bitcoin community. If bitcoin does not innovate, will it suffer the same fate as Windows? Microsoft stopped striving for innovation, as a result, users have gadgets on Android and iOS systems.
Innovation is pivotal to the long-term success of any technology, including bitcoin. The conservatism of the bitcoin community could indeed slow down the implementation of new features. However, one should not make such categorical predictions about the loss of bitcoin's market position.
The comparison with Windows is interesting, but not entirely correct. Microsoft continues to innovate in Windows, albeit at a slower pace than some competitors. Notably, Windows retains a significant share of the PC market.
Bitcoin is also developing, albeit cautiously. The introduction of the Lightning Network and Taproot are examples of recent improvements. Its value as "digital gold" and a reliable store of value should not be underestimated either.
Bitcoin needs to continue to evolve to stay competitive. Other projects, including Cardano, do offer interesting innovations. Time will tell whether Bitcoin can adapt quickly enough.
The cryptocurrency ecosystem is large enough to accommodate different approaches, from conservative bitcoin to more innovative altcoins. Diversity and competition of ideas is ultimately beneficial for the development of the entire industry.
