Blockchain in archaeology

In 2023, the Salsal project was launched in Egypt, which uses blockchain to register archaeological artifacts. This project was initiated by scientists from University College London and Abu Dhabi University, and its main goal is to combat the illegal export of antiquities. Artifacts are registered on the blockchain, which makes it possible to track their origin and protect them from illegal circulation on the black market. Salsal records artifact data in a decentralized system, eliminating the possibility of their modification and ensuring transparency and reliability.

This approach facilitates cooperation between museums, experts and law enforcement agencies, providing a platform for verifying the authenticity and legality of artifacts.
